Sketching Architecture from Observation

Delivered through Bow Arts, this Year 4 workshop introduced students to observational pencil drawing, inspired by their school and local buildings. Pupils explored perspective, scale, light and shadow, beginning with photographs and small-scale studies before moving outdoors to draw from their surroundings. Techniques included measuring with pencils, experimenting with texture and rubbings, and refining line and shading. The project also included a CPD element for teachers, supporting them to lead observational drawing activities independently. Students produced detailed, expressive drawings, building confidence, observational skills, and a deeper connection to their local environment.
